Very interesting reading - especially the part which underlines the fact that the Speightstown/Six Mens area was known as a rich Pre-Columbian archaeological site for more than 100 years. All the more reason the ditch they are digging at Retreat for Port Ferdinand of Arrogance without first proper archaeological excavation is such a tragedy and loss to our heritage - not to mention the environmental damage. They were digging there since late spring/early summer and the first time the island as a whole knew anything about it was when The Nation ran a couple puff pieces of the development and the developer a few weeks ago. There is no question in my mind that the secrecy was to ensure that the project was not held up "by some silly people looking for pottery." Somebody in government had to know about the archaeological significance of this site and signed off on its destruction. It's the same Taliban mentally that saddled us with the groynes in Road View/Mullins and destroyed the Bamyan Buddhas in Afghanistan.
