So, I get back home last night after being away for two weeks and found that a drunk driver on a wet road had taken out the bus stop and part of the wall of the church next door. Good thing no one was waiting for a bus (well, it's not like one was imminent between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM Saturday morning). Next, I heard about the Bjerkham tragedy yesterday, see post - http://bbtravel.freeforums.org/gun-tragedy-on-west-coast-t3153.html, and finally, this morning just over an hour ago a neighbor from the Mullins Terrace area got knocked down on the road by a truck.

Frankie, reference the person that was knocked down by the truck, how long would it take for an ambulance vehicle to arrive and where would they come from? Hope the accident victim is ok!

No word yet on the condition of the old woman (reportedly 80 yrs) who got knocked down this morning. She was still conscious (able to speak and lift a hand) when the ambulance picked her up but she had lost a lot of blood and sustained an head injury. Not sure if you know her, Viv, but you may have seen her on the road heading to and from the bus stops.
The ambulance came from the QEH (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) 11 miles away. I do not know how long it normally takes to respond given the distance but people on the scene were complaining that it was taking a long time. There are also other private ambulance services but I do not know how they operate.

Update: Happy to report that the old lady involved in this accident is out of hospital and doing fine. Apparently she suffered no major injuries. She was attempting to cross the road and thought she had fallen. The truck driver claims she ran out into the road in front of him.

Nearly two years after a drunk driver "catspraddled" it late one Friday night - see above - Road View Centre bus stop has a bus shelter again. Hooray! It arrived today just 5 days after yet another impaired driver did the same thing to a nearby garden fence - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater - and ended up wrapped around a utility pole a few yards away. Word on the street is that the "Mullins And Friends Association" was instrumental in getting this shelter replaced, if so, I salute them and hope they would also rally around the larger issue of road safety in Road View/Mullins - http://www.change.org/petitions/road-vi ... y-petition — at Road View, St. Peter, Barbados.
