Boardwalk Cafe's

Here we discuss all matters relating to travel on the south coast of Barbados.

Boardwalk Cafe's

Postby bgifan on Fri Sep 18, 2009 9:08 am

There are two Boardwalk Cafe's. One is at the bandstand and is in a parking lot without restroom facilities. It only has a porta potty with no place to wash up after, definitely not for women. The bar itself is quite attrative, brand new construction. It looks like they may be setting up to BBQ since they have two oil drum setups in place. It would be better if they could install some greenery to change the mood from parking lot to beach bar.

The other place is at the Allamanda Hotel and is right on the Boardwalk. They open it around Noon but without a bartender. If you want a drink you have to go to the main bar, Nairn has to service both places. Later in the afternoon they man (woman) the beach bar and leave the main bar unmanned. On weekends they have both bars going. A couple of times a week they have evening entertainment (one man band) and on Sunday starting at 1:30 they have a jam session that goes on til late in the evening (weather permitting). They also serve a roast beef with Yorkshire pudding meal on Sunday's that cost $35.00 which is getting popular.

what kind of seating arrangements do they have for the Sunday dinner?...that sounds like a good deal but not if I eat it standing up or sitting down on the edge of the boardwalk :)

They have proper tables at the beach side bar and also the restaurant approx. 50' away. You can reserve tables, which may be the only option if it gets any more popular. To reserve you must have to go through the Allamanda switchboard or drop in during the week.

We had it the first Sunday there Sept 4th. The beef was a Sirloin roast and was very tender, the veg was local pumpkin etc. It was well worth the money and helped with the minor hangover from the night before when accomanied by a Banks. Last Sunday an acquaitance from England that we had met at the Coconut Court 4 years ago took our recommendation and tried it. He said it was very good as did his two companions.

It is rumored that the Allamanda and it's sister hotel are in receivership so hopefully they will still be in business when you go. Gideon and Danny could have a gold mine if things continue to improve.

I was at Allamanda from Sept 3-14 which included 2 Sundays. The roast beef lunch is getting more popular as it costs only $35 bdos. They serve from 1pm till about 3pm or as long as the roast beef lasts but I did see some plates coming out after 3 on the first Sunday. The plate includes roasted potatoes, local vegetables, yorkshire pudding, 3 healthy slices of beef and gravy. If you'd rather have mashed potatoes you only need to ask and they will be supplied. There is ample sitting - you can sit in the restaurant if you prefer the shade. No one stands up. They also have a one man band that plays in the afternoon from about 1-5. Some other local talent did show up to join in the jam session. That included drums, a sax, a flute, and multiple guitars. It was very entertaining. I did recommend it to Martin from England and he attended on the second Sunday. Is that the chap you are referring to? I also heard that the Palms Group of hotel are in receivership. It includes Allamanda, Amaryllis, and Sandy Bay. My fingers are crossed for Gideon, Danny, and Narin.

Thanks for this bdos4ever - hopefully it'll still be open next week so we'll give it a go. There aren't many things I miss when I'm in Bim but Sunday roast is one
