Illegal drugs were netted at the beach in Fitts Village in St James last night following a police operation.

A release from police stated that around 8 p.m yesterday, members of the Drug Squad, assisted by the Police Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard, conducted an operation on the beach at Fitts Village where 2 044 pounds of cannabis were seized.

Police have reported that three people have been arrested and are currently assisting with this investigation.

Police said one firearm was also seized which was with the shipment of drugs, two vehicles and a boat.

“On the arrival of the operation team, a large group of armed men were encountered on the beach and they opened fire at the Police with what seemed to be heavy caliber weapons. Police returned fire and the men fled. One man was held by members of the Coast Guard in the sea and two other men were held by police nearby,” stated the release.

The illegal drug was discovered in 50 polythene bags and three taped packages.

Wow you wouldn't want to have been having an evening stroll when that happened, good that they apprehended some of them but scary to think some of them are still wandering about.

yikes. so that's why I picked Fitts for part of our trip...
I better not show this to the wife...

(well at least Barbados isn't "small time" -- that sounds like over $3M street value... in the US)
