Thank you KNRX - they are horrible - ruined that little bit of coast line. They dont look much further on with them since we were there in Jan this year. You can barely see Sandridge - any news on KBH?
KNRX did you get as far as Sandridge & if so anything happened to it yet, also Kings Beach still as it was? I agree when I went last July they didn't look much different. They are taking their time have they run out of money? that would be typical ruin a perfectly good beach ,close one of my favourite places then stop!

Yes, I went as far as Sandridge and nothing is happening there yet. It was strange to see everything quiet around there at what would have been normally breakfast time by the beachfront restaurant. I was told that guests were still there as recently as last month. KBH is still a ruin but again I was reliably told that too will be transformed into condos. There is a little rumor on the street that the developer of the St. Peter’s Bay Condos who also bought Sandridge is in fact the new owner of the KBH property and that he plans to extend the condos there. What we do know is that he is not so subtly buying up all the land between his and KBH, recently purchasing another plot (non-beachfront) adjoining his on the south. If he succeeds, the entire “Dark Hole” neighborhood of Road View, St. Peter will be wiped off the map.
It probably would not be a bad thing if the ugly groins they built destroyed only the beach in front of the new condos; but sadly, and as I have been warning for the last two years -http://mullinsbay.blogspot.com/2006/08/uglification-of-mullins-bay.html, we are also seeing the impact in our little cove from The Great House to The Palace. I have never seen this stretch of beach under such stress and so eroded. The photo below (also taken yesterday) tells the tale. We were all impacted by Hurricane Ike but this damage was going on before and getting worse ever since those ugly groins went up. It is now impossible to walk from Mullins Beach proper to what’s left in front of Jentillia and The Great House at high tide. I have seen visitors coming from the direction of Sandridge and trying to get to Mullins turn around and go back in front of Jentillia. Last month I heard the owners of Leamingtion who usually walk the beach everyday twice a day when they are in town asking “where did the beach go?” Soon we will all be asking that same question.
Who would believe that a year ago you could still lounge here at low tide or high tide on a sandy beach?
Used to chat with the owners of Leamington whenever we met walking the beach. So are the groins stopping the natural way of things along the beach? I've seen the beaches down on sand but not like that even after heavy seas & in any case it came back.

No, it is not quite that bad in front of Jentillia yet, Emma, as the photo below shows; but that may just be a matter of time - nothing really to celebrate. In this new photo I am looking north and the previous one I am look south from approximately the same location. The previous shot is the beach in front of Junkanoo, Cassandra Apts. and The Pink House (probably one of the reasons the latter is currently up for sale). All three of these properties are also vacation rentals. We (Jentillia) have already lost two mature coconut trees since the groins went in (stub of one visable in photo showing volume of sand lost to erosion). JTD, there is no question that the groins have impacted currents in the area and is the cause of the damage we are seeing, but in the scheme of things St. Peter's Bay is bringing in more foreign exchange into the treasury than us little people can ever match, so guess who the powers that be are listening to...???
Beach in front of Jentillia as it appeared at low tide yesterday morning circa 8:30 AM

It must be heartbraking for people who have lived in the area for years and see such differences right outside their properties especially in your first pic KNRX, I should think it can't help them to sell either. I hope the damage to your frontage at least manages to maintain the sand it has now. How much longer do you have left in Barbados?

Not sure yet when I'll be leaving, still some things I'd like to see get done before I do. Not letting it get in the way of the rental though - it only takes me two minutes to disappear into the fields and hills.

More heavy rains in Barbados today flooding parts of Bridgetown and Christ Church again. Even St. Lawrence Gap was flooded, but one intrepid British visitor said on the TV news tonight that at least when it rains in Barbados outside is still warm. I am getting a little tired of the rainy weather myself even though it is good for my fledgling lawn. I took the shot below from my deck today. It is gray and cloudy and I have not got a zoom on the camera but you can probably still make out the coast guard vessel tied up the buoys where the Mullins inflatables are moored. Some of the officers were in the water diving so I don't know if they were checking for drugs or other contraband. They were around for about an hour until the rain started up again.
