Let's hope someone buys it & turns it back into a small hotel, it is in lovely spot, surely there is a limit to the number of condos that an arrea can take. Maybe the "credit crunch" will do us a favour in one way & curtail some of this building.Has anything much happened to Sandridge, which in case anyone does,'t know is virtually next door (next door up here is about quarter of a mile away!)

From the road it looks like they have halted the dismantling of Sandridge and started what looks like new construction on the gift shop area. Trying to figure out what is going on there is like reading tea leaves. They have begun painting the exterior of St. Peter's Bay Condos of which it is now a part. With its mustard yellow and red clay tile roof it will bring a bit of Spain to Road View. Btw, I have been told that the character mentioned in the news article as having disappeared in a plane crash is in fact living quite openly in Barbados.

As I recall the KBH was originally owned by a Swiss guy who used to visit at Xmas when we were usually there, Mathieson who as far as I recall owned the Coco Banana where the Chinese is now & had some involvement with KBH as well is the person who disappeared after some sort of fraud activity. I have seen him about over the years I think. I never knew the Fletchers but 'Chappie' always reckoned there weren't on the plane. KBH has that Spanish look with those red tiles on the roof.

I know their was a lot of talk about what had happened. It was never the same after the Fletchers went.
I don't think the KB villas every really took off.
It will be strange seeing Sandridge in Feb.

I attended a lunch yesterday and was seated next to a gentleman who has been traveling to Barbados for the past 35 years. He mentioned that the King’s Beach was his favorite place to stay and had many fond memories of his visits there. They are leaving next week and staying at villa near Speightown. I’m afraid we monopolized our table with talk about Barbados! Wish I had had the opportunity to have stayed there.

Sue W ..it was nothing special there, just a 3/4*(at a push!) This is why I get so aware of what people say when they reccommend certain hotels. WE liked it mainly because of it's location & if you go anywhere enough the staff get to know you & treat you better, this does NOT make it the best place to stay & I was always careful to avoid giving this impression to others. It was however a good place for us, beautiful natural beach that could be walked for miles in both directions, beach service fior drinks , good food if we wanted it & low key entertainment. Had we not stayed there though I feel we would probably missed out on a very special part of the island.

We have no interest is staying in 5*, tending to prefer places with a great beach, a bit of character and lovely people. Sounds like the KBH would have fit the bill.

Sandridge was much the same really except for if you ensured you got the right room it was better but if you just got ''run of the house'' is wasn't..it really wasn't! Now both are gone I am at a loss where to stay should Mrs.JTD decide to fly long haul again. It has to be a hotel if we go on our own we annoy each other too much alone.

You are right about Sandridge John, the suites at the front of the hotel were lovely and some of the one bed apts were nice, but the standard hotel rooms were tiny.
That made me laugh about you and Mrs JTD!!!!

Well.. we need other people to mix with, we feel if we go on holiday & stay in a villa or something we may get isolated but a place with a bar gives a focal point. We are not the sort who think a hotel is just a place to sleep it is the base of our holiday that is why we are so careful in choosing the right one or even the right room.

You are correct, JTD, I forgot KBH had already pioneered the Spanish architectural theme in Road View.

I still think government should have bought KBH and turned the property into a national park. It would have been a lot cheaper (given they could have had it for its tax liability) and more socially responsible than the recent bailout of the turf club to the tune of US $10M.

Today...NOT ONE PERSON opened up the bid on Friday at the auction for the King's Beach Hotel.

Despite the number of attendees and lawyers who showed up at Yearwood & Boyce Law Offices at No. 14 James Street, the City, there were awkward minutes of silence after George Denis Clarke explained that the initial bid must be no less than $50 million for the Road View, St Peter property.

"I will have to report to the bank that there was a gathering but no one was interested in purchasing the property and then take the Bank's further instructions," Clarke said to those gathered in the boardroom.

In 2006, managing director Martin Richards tried to sell the property for $20-plus million to a development group from Gurnsey, out of the Channel Islands, which was supposed to build 50 multi-million dollar condominiums on the spot.

However, that sale was halted after a receiver stepped in. Friday was the third time the unoccupied hotel was up for sale. (TM)

KRNX, A friend of mine who lives not far from you knows the character you were referring to very well, he has actually seen them both and they are living back on the island. I'm amazed, how can they get away with it !!!
