I've gotten some good deals on Sky Auction. Just read the fine print and know the value of what you're bidding on and you will be fine. Unfortuneately for me the latest travel date is too early for me.

So what is the 'catch' in this auction??

the catch seems to be that skyauction/Butterfly charges $39 per room per night taxes and service fees. But their cheapest room is usually $80 according to their website so still seems a good deal. Dont know anything about skyauction.com themselves though.

They are also offering a deal on Thr Crane - more expensive 38$ I think - but probably a lot cheaper than standard hotel rate!

There is no catch and they do have a very good reputation. I have friends that have “won” some very good deals. As Bassman says, you just have to read the fine print. In this case you are paying an additional cost of $39.00 per room per night of Tax and service charges over and above the rate you bid per night and can only use the "winning" rate for a max. of 7 nights. And there is a $20 processing fee. The cheapest currently advertised rates on their website (Butterfly Beach) is $80 for an off season Superior room.

Our Canadian friends use Skyauction a lot. They too have had many great deals and have won them for us in the past too. Hotel rooms and theatre tickets in New York which were so much cheaper we could hardly believe it.
