Paynes Bay Safety

Can anyone tell me how safe the area around Annabelles and St James apartments at Paynes Bay are? Thanks

I'm not familiar with Annabelle's, but we have stopped at the St.James apartments twice now and never had any problem, they have a 24 hour security guard and the doors are locked at night, you need to use a code to get in. It is a lovely spot. We have a car as there aren't many restaurants or bars in the close vacinity apart from Scarlet's.

It can be busy during cruise season, we only stop there out of it in May, there are a few days even then during our 2 weeks that ships are in and it gets a bit chaotic, we just go out those days, it would put me off stopping there November though April.

Let me know if you have any more questions, Em

Hi Em:
Annabelles is apparently the cottage next door to the St James apt on the north side ( has a little boutique at the road side) ans is right on the beach. We are there with our family in Feb.

This isn't a great one, I took it one day when we were on CoolRunnings, ignore the crane it isn't there any more :D I believe it is the small house to the left of the picture.

This is a better one, I think you can just see the house on the left. I will post some beach pics in a min.

You probably know but if you click on the pics they enlarge

Hi Rocky, the actual area I think is safe, do they have night security or not? If not I wouldn't worry too much I think it is good that it is so close to the St.James apartments, the owner of the St.James also owns a villa which I think is just next door on the north to the one you are renting so I bet the night watchman watches out for that too, he is about on the beach outside the St.James so I think that it would make it pretty safe. Not that I have ever seen anything untoward in the area but you do hear of private villa's being burgled. I don't think you should have any problems.

Here are a few more pics of the beach

The last one shows the reefs in the shallows just off the beach, they are great for seeing the turtles swimming over!

I really appreciate the pictures...it looks so lovely. The cottage has metal grilles on the doors and windows, and lights on the front ( and beach?)...No actual guard though. There is another place we were looking at up in the Mullins Beach area....would that be a better location for restaurants, walking, safety? I was in Barbados over 20 years ago, butdfon't remember much except we loved it. Thanks

No probs you're welcome. Wow you'll notice a few changes in Bim then after 20 years :) Mullins doesn't have any more restaurants really, it has the beach bar/restaurant that is the Westmoreland club house but open to guests to eat and drink and a chinese restaurant, apart from that you need to drive too, I would say Paynes is closer to Holetown where the majority of restaurants are. If you don't have a car it would be easy to jump on a bus. It is a shame because at least when the blue monkey was open there was a beach bar close by, it was actually quite nice to eat at at night. Scarlet bar is a short walk and is very nice to eat and for a drink. There is croc's den that is open since we last went, I think a night club/bar type place. The only thing I would be aware of as I said before is that the beach could get very busy with cruise passengers.

Hi Rocky
Sorry to butt in ..... but noticed you mentioned that you were looking at a place in the Mullins Beach area.
I have just returned from staying in that area and may be able to help as to any info you want.
We really enjoyed staying at Mullins but as Emma has said there arent too many restaurants or bars in that area.

Thanks - my family ( parents & 2 teenagers)and I are looking for a reasonably priced self catering beachfront place for 2 weeks + in Feb. Want to try to do without a car most of the time..but want ground level safe swimming, easy to get to resyauarants groceries. Most places I have tried are way to pricy or full.

Take a look at the Classifieds section on here.
Chattel Jentillia would probably suit you and is only a short stroll on to Mullins beach. Frankie has a very good special offer on at the moment!

I actually had a request in to rent Jentillia that I hadn't heard back until after I was reconsidering the Paynes Bay rental and I have since spoken with Franklyn and have rented his place in Feb for our vacation. My family is very pleased and we are all looking forward to it. I understand Franklyn had lunch with a number of you today...it truly is a small world. Thanks again for the advice and pictures from you all. I'm sure I will have some more questions before Feb arrives. Cheers
