Brits coming!

Mon, October 01, 2012 - 12:09 AM
AFTER NEARLY A DECADE as a blot on Barbados’ West Coast, the former Regent Hotel at Vauxhall, St James, is to be demolished, as well as the former Chefette Restaurant in Holetown.

The two buildings situated between the posh Sandy Lane Hotel and Holetown in St James are to make way for a luxury homes project that its British developers said would also recreate a “window to the sea” – once a feature of the area.

Though no figures have been given for the level of investment expected to be pumped into the project, a Press release from the principals over the weekend said “developer BABS, in conjunction with two of London’s foremost property developers, Nick Leslau of Prestbury and Bruce Ritchie of Residential Land, will be carrying out the projects”.

The former Chefette Restaurant was reportedly purchased for more than $20 million, while the Regent was bought after years of legal wrangling. (GE)

That will be good to see Elaine, I always think it is so sad what happened to the Regent building falling to rack and ruin. It will be nice to see the day when hoarding finally comes down all along that stretch and even better if you can see the sea through the development.

I agree Em it will certainly be an improvement once the hoardings have gone.
Hopefully they will manage to get buyers for them. :)
(whatever they build I mean not the hoardings  )

I once had a fantastic holiday at the Regent. It has been left in a state for too long now.

I have to say that it must be 3 or 4 years ago that it was announced that houses would be built on the site rather than a nasty condo block. Are we now getting a bit nearer ? I do hope so.

Regent Hotel coming down
The former Regent Hotel in Holetown is to be demolished in the next ten days.

The Regent Hotel and the former Chefette Restaurant in Holetown, St James, are to be demolished in the next ten days.

Sources close to the development informed the WEEKEND NATION that the Regent Hotel. which was once a 67-room luxury property, would be reduced to rubble and none too soon for nearby residents.

According to them, the multi-storey building had steadily decayed over the eight years of its closure and was hit by at least two fires said to have beeen started by vagrants who had taken over the property for some time. (GE)

Does anyone else hope that they demolish it and leave the land flat for a while while they decide what /where etc they are building - better to see the sea than a load of boardings !

That is good news Elaine!
It would be lovely if it was left flat for a while.
