Wow Bill, Thanks for taking the time to post all of that!! Its great! We're renting a van for the duration of our trip so We have every intention of making our way around the island. I'm very excited and I cant' thank you enough for all the information.

We definately had planned on the Ostins Fish Fry, Mount Gay rum tour, and both Speighstown and Holetown, - Seeing as its our first trip to BIM we're happy to accept ALL suggestions of places to see, things to do and of course great places to eat and drink!

Thanks again..... and keep em coming!

:)

A place I havent been to in Speightstown is Island Plates, a friend of mine who lives close by highly recommends it - it is situated in the square opposite Jordan's supermarket, run by two local ladies.
They do everything from breakfast, lunch through to dinner.

I've heard about that too, Sue. I haven't been there but from what I've read, it's very informal (coffee shop atmosphere) and noted for its freshly prepared food and especially great brownies!

nice! Thanks!

Question for you - can I use debit cards? or would most places likely only take Credit cards and cash?

Another Question???

I've read that a permit is required to bring in meat? My Friends eat alot of dried salami and my husband Loves his bacon... What kind of scrutiny do the bag get upon entering the country and or would it be best to get a permit to bring in the kind of things we like to eat that we may not be able to get our hands on while there?

Thanks again....:)

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, but while your on the east coast near Bathsheba, try Hackletons cliff,

The view at Hackleton's Cliff, rises almost perpendicularly within a few miles of the coastline and reaches a height of one thousand feet above sea-level.

According to legend, the cliff is named after a man who committed suicide by riding his horse off the cliff.

Naturally, this cliff offers one of the best views of Barbados' east coast.

Just to clarify my question, we are not opposed to buying our meat. I plan on doing my best to support the local ecomony - I wonder however about certain things that we may find difficult to get our hands on. The bacon is not as big an issue of course, the salami's are most important.. :)

You can buy salami in Super Centre, if you google it you will see what you can purchase there. We have bought bacon but the only type I have seen (I could be wrong) is the steaky type. The supermarkets are very well stocked.

I just checked the super centre and it showed a 7 oz genoa salami was $138.00 so thats nearly $70 bucks?  Thats insane.... I may just do the permit to bring those things that my crazy friends eat... I simply can't imagine spending 70 bucks on genoa salami..
