Frankie I can understand your anger, to me what was one of the lovliest parts of the island (no offence to anyone who doesn't agree) has been ruined beyond repair - I feel sad driving by the place.
Politicians must all be tarred with the same brush the world over, full of good intentions until it comes to actually doing something!
Sue

p.s. I still love the north west coast from Cobblers Cove

You probably can still walk the beach but now only at low tide, JTD, as you can see in this photo I took today from behind The Great House:

We lost up to 4 feet or more of sand in some places as you can see in this next photo. Jentillia is located behind the short coconut trees.

Guard wall keeping out the sea and providing privacy for this gazebo at The Great House collapsed. This wall was repaired probably only a month ago. Don't worry, they probably can replace the whole villa with the money they made Friday on the Westlife wedding.   It's the little people like me in the area still hanging on to the coast who are paying the price for the sins of the developers of St. Peter's Bay Villas.

Image
Here is where some of the sand from our cove ended up - in front of this groyne on the property line between St. Peter's Bay Villas and the abandoned Kings Beach Hotel. Hurray! Hurray! Kings Beach has a sandy beach again! The two other offending groynes can be seen in the background.

Image
This gate at The Great House once opened on a sandy beach - now you are more likely to break your neck falling from it.

Image
This pile of rocks and the root system of the young coconut trees and the dead/fallen one in the left foreground are all that's keeping my fence from toppling over. We are hoping (my neighbors and I) to get some government assistance in constructing a proper gabion wall (wire baskets filled with rocks) to prevent this from happening.

[Post edited] Our Parliamentary Representative called and showed up early this morning at 5:30 AM to take a look at the beach erosion problem. He only spent a few minutes but they were enough to reassure us that he cared. As I mentioned earlier, he is now in Opposition and we do not know how much he can do, but the significance of his presence with us speaks volumes [Post edited].

Heard back from our parliamentarian this morning confirming that the matter is now in the hands of the Coastal Zone Management people. They gave me the run-around last fall in the aftermath of Hurricane Omar - let's see what they do now.

Frankie, I have been following your posts on this with great sadness,as you know, that little stretch of beach means a lot to me too, would it not be advisable at this stage for the residents to band together and take legal advise, it would probably be more effective.......or form a chain gang and build your own bl--dy groins and I bet you would soon be hearing from their lawyers :!: :!:

More good news on beachfront! I learned earlier this evening that [the candidate from the other party in the last elections] [Post edited] showed up quietly today late in the morning and took pictures of the disaster. I don't know if he heard that the parliamentarian was here earlier, but I am guessing that it cannot be a bad thing if both of them have seen "the light" and are now working on our behalf. I try to steer clear of politics but I asked a neighbor how he felt about the parliamentarian showing up this morning and immediately he started cursing at the very mention of the parliamentarian's name disregarding completely the effort he was showing on his behalf. What do they say again about "where ignorance abounds...." :?: :?: :?: Viv, do you see now why the banding together thing will not work?

It worked back in the '90s when the folks largely from Mullins Terrace banded together to stop the "beach garden" and other efforts to shut off Mullins Beach from public view; but the beach at Road View does not have the high profile of Mullins, and those very folks from Mullins Terrace hardly ever come down to our little cove because of the silly little secret of the social and economic divide in Barbados where folks who live in "wall houses" in the "heights and terraces" have little or nothing to do with their cousins still living in "board houses" in the "villages." Savvy developers who are on to this secret have exploited it to the determent of all Bajans. Some of those who were marching against the gentrification of Mullins Beach in the '90s would be among the very first to tell you today that the current disaster in Road View is yet another reason people of limited means should move off the beach and sell to the condo developers.

We are now in the process of organizing for political action to pressure St. Peter's Bay Villas to remove the groynes which are destroying beaches in the area. The Nation Newspaper is coming to the area today to take look at the situation for themselves. If you would like to join the effort, please follow the new Twitter account I have created "savemullinsbay." Here is our first tweet - http://twitter.com/savemullinsbay/statuses/1794272514
