As we organized for what will undoubtedly be a tough battle to secure the removal of the groynes at the St. Peter's Bay condo development which are destroying beaches and private property in the area, here are a few ideas for things we can do in the interim: 1. Familiarize yourself with the issues by visiting the affected areas (if you are on the island). Go to Mullins Beach and trying walking north towards where the Sandridge Hotel was located, or south from Sandridge to Mullins Beach. Walking these beaches used to be a pleasurable experience regardless of the tides but is now barely possible only at or around low tide, so check the tides before setting out. If you don't have the time to walk the entire stretch, there are a few tracks from the road to beach where you can still view some of the areas of most damage to the beach and property: Open lot between Cassandra Apartments and Jonkanoo cottage in Road View across the street from the Sunset Bar and Grill. Track between Jentillia (yelllow chattel house) and neighbor to the south across from the East Moon Chinese Restaurant in Road View. Track between the Peoples Worship Centre in Road View and neighbor to the north at the bus stop by the church. Track through the abandoned Kings Beach Hotel in Road View. Parking is possible in parking lots at Kings Beach and East Moon. If coming by bus from Bridgetown or points to the south (any bus or PSV passing through Speightstown) get off by the bus stop at the Peoples Worship Centre (you would need to signal the driver after rounding the corner by Mullins Beach). From points north get off by the stop after you pass Kings Beach Hotel (signal driver by or before Kings Beach). 2. If you are not on the island and/or cannot get to the area, familiarize yourself with the issues by visiting the Mullins Bay Blog - http://mullinsbay.blogspot.com. Beach erosion in the area has been one of the main themes of this blog. Use search terms such as erosion, Kings Beach, Great House, St. Peter's Bay, groins, groynes, sand loss, etc. A good place to start is with the post entiled "The Uglification of Mullins Bay" - http://mullinsbay.blogspot.com/2006/08/uglification-of-mullins-bay.html - dated August 13, 2006 which was copied in part two days later by the Barbados Free Press for their post entitled "Does Barbados Law Prevent Developers From Destroying Nearby Beaches To Enhance Their Own Beach?" - http://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2006/08/28/does-barbados-law-prevent-developers-from-destroying-nearby-beaches-to-enhance-their-own-beach. Share these posts with your contacts and invite them to get involved with the effort to right this wrong. You can also post replies to the BFP post to help bring it back into the public eye. 3. Copy and share photos of the damaged areas found on the Mullins Bay Blog or on this forum - http://bbtravel.freeforums.org/st-peter-road-view-t756-15.html#p9881. 4. Watch for and share the forthcoming article in the Nation newspaper.5. Follow "savemullinsbay" on Twitter. This will be our primary vehicle for getting the word out quickly for our plans, ideas, events, protests, etc., in the coming days. Retweet all tweets from "savemullinsbay" to help spread the word. 6. Start recruiting your own friends, family and contacts to join the effort. Please look for major article on this issue to appear in tomorrow's Nation - www.nationnews.com. I do not know how much of it will make the online edition but please pass the word around to look for the article, and email and/or otherwise share with your contacts whatever appears online. Also, follow www.twitter.com/savemullinsbay for further developments.

KNRX would it be possible/useful to start an online petition that you could use to help convince the government that it needs to take action? And that it would affect the tourist industry as well as the Barbados community I think that all the beaches should be open to all and not get to a situation where the "best beach" is right outside some high end resort with nearby beaches suffering because of it. I have only mainly been to Mullins beach at that part of the island but would hate any beaches/properties to suffer because of the actions of a few.

I agree with Happydays and think an online petition to the Goverment is a brilliant idea. Viv

The article - "VANISHED! Mullins Beach white sands disappearing due to erosion" - actually made headlines in today's print edition of the Sunday Sun (the Sunday edition of The Nation) - front page pictured above. I do not know why it does not appear in the online paper but my understanding is that they are working on correcting that problem. Also, for US $1 you can purchase an online copy at http://www.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx?newspaper=sun+(barbados)&cid=1397. The online petition is an excellent idea but I think it should be in conjunction with what's happening on the ground locally, and we are still in the early stages of meetings and contacting people. Stay tuned to http://www.twitter.com/savemullinsbay for further developments.

I have now posted the following to the forums as listed Mullins Bay beaches on the West coast of Barbados are suffering serious erosion, recent swells have left the area with no beach and severe damage to land adjoining the beach, many of the beach front properties are now at risk of being swamped by the sea, most badly affected is the stretch between 'Mullins' beach and 'Kings' beach.A high end apartment block developer is being blamed for installing several groins out into the sea in front of the property to trap sand in order to restore their own beach, which has resulted in neighbouring beaches being destroyed. Local residents and tourists alike are organising a campaign to save these well loved beaches before it is too late. You can find the latest news on this by following this link …blogspot.com/2009/05/twitter-save-mullinsba… If you would like to help you can support the campaign by adding your comments through this link. Thanks robiv .............................................................................................................................................
