Tommy Bahama, the name behind the clothing, restaurants and accessories, also serves up two different rums, Tommy Bahama Rum from Barbados. Aptly named Golden Sun and White Sand, these two bottles reflect the island feeling of Barbados with simply designed bottles clear enough to see your reflection in, with the stencils of palm trees lining the back of the bottle.

Both rums are 40% alcohol by volume, and are aged in oak. White Sand is a white rum aged for two years, with fruity hints. Golden Sun is an amber color, aged three years, with a sweet nose and hints of spice.

Tommy Bahama Rum carries an SRP around $30 for each bottle. It can be served on the rocks or in a cocktail, and the team at the Tommy Bahama Café have created some really luscious-looking beverages! Drink responsibly and raise a glass to this island spirit. Soon enough you will feel the breeze in your hair and your toes in the sand! Cheers!

Bahama Basil Smash by Tommy Bahama Café
2 ½ parts Tommy Bahama White Sand Rum
2 parts sour mix
3 fresh blackberries
4 basil leaves
4 slices of ginger
¼ part lemon-lime soda
Muddle blackberries, basil and ginger in a mixing glass. Add remaining ingredients, shake well and strain into a mixing glass. Top with a splash of lemon-lime soda. Garnish with an orchid.

Tommy Bahama Rum is made by RL Seale & Co which also makes Alleyne Arthur, Doorly's, ESA Fields and other rums.

Brett, I have never had the "Tommy Bahama" rum, so I don't speak with any first hand knowledge. But I will say something about product branding. The brand "Tommy Bahama" in the US has been a phenomenal success and I love their stores. That said, they probably have little to do with the production of their rum. Consequently, compared to, say Mount Gay, who has a solid reputation for rum production, will produce a great product day in and day out.

This is not to say that whoever produces "Tommy Bahama" is not as good as Mount Gay, but as a rum product, my money is on Mount Gay, long term.

If I were "Tommy Bahama" you betcha I would produce a rum. Their brand has a great reputation and I would do the same, if I were them!

Of course, you can't ask Frankie (we call him the "soda pop kid") because he probably wisely doesn't consume "fire water", but on the other hand, you could ask his grandpappy, who was a rum shopkeeper!

Not sure how well know the Tommy Bahama brand is known outside of the States. It’s not that well know here in Canada. My first though was sunglasses, but I googled them and see that they are a men’s clothing line. Perhaps the rum would sell well in the States based on their brand recognition, but my experience has taught me that brand imaging don’t transfer well where alcohol is concerned. We’ve had a number of companies/personalities launch wines based on their strong branding in other areas and they’ve all flopped, even though in some cases they are very good wines.

Hmmm – not sure who we could market that to. When I hear Brett’s Beer I think of something bitter …cheap… I'm sure there might be a market but it wouldn't be upscale.
