I feel really thick asking this and for not checking with the bank while I was in Barbados.
I’m just about to write my first cheque and I’m confused…..
There is a line that says ‘Pay to the order of’ and underneath this a line which is where I assume you put the name of the person you are making the cheque out to.
The next line I was putting the amount in words as there is a Dollar at the end of the line.
The next line is the bank address
The last line begins ‘For’. What should I be putting on the ‘For’ line????

There is a line that says ‘Pay to the order of’ and underneath this a line which is where I assume you put the name of the person you are making the cheque out to. Actually, Pay to the Order of: has a line to the right and that's where you place the name of the person to whom you are writing the check. Then just to the right of that line is a space next to a $ sign and that is where you write the numeric amount such as $1,500.00
The next line I was putting the amount in words as there is a Dollar at the end of the line. Lets say you write the check for $1,500.00 then you write on that line the words "One Thousand Five Hundred and 00/100***Dollars
The next line is the bank address That is correct
The last line begins ‘For’. What should I be putting on the ‘For’ line???? Let's say that you wrote a check to Brett for his bar bill. Then you write: For Brett's Bar Bill

glad they dont have these in the UK! they are not carbonated are they? imagine having to keep writing "for new shoes" "for new shoes" "for new shoes" - even worse - other half seeing what you actually spend your money on !
In Canada the For line in not mandatory to be filled in...you could write anything there and the cheque is still good...so when buying shoes, you could put "transportation" in that space. One only needs to be creative.
