OK, I know I post too much about animals! But I tend to be quite fond of them.

Several days ago, there was a story in my local paper about two Bald Eagles, that were nesting next to the James River, here in Richmond, VA. A web cam was installed by a conservation group and is positioned to view the eagles in their nest, although I'm yet to see them.

An additional story this morning, suggest a good time to see them is between 7am and 10am EST. There is sound as well. Lots of wind today in Richmond.

Check out the video tab taped last evening.

Brett, that web cam just came on line Monday and has had over 16,600 views so far.

The pair is preparing the nest for their event in about 2 weeks, so their nest activity should increase soon.

The Center for Conservation Biology has teamed with The Richmond Times Dispatch to provide live streaming of this longtime eagle pair. The center of conservation is part of Virginia Commonwealth University and The College of William and Mary. The latter school has contributed much to the history and preservation of Barbados.

From St. Nicholas Abbey website:

Since 2007 students from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia have conducted archaeological investigations at St. Nicholas Abbey, under the direction of Dr. Frederick H. Smith.

For those in The UK, the best time to see the pair of Bald Eagles would be around noon your time. This morning they appeared at about 7am EST for about an hour plus. They were either in the nest or on a branch. The cam operator really gave us a show, with one eagle perched on a limb. With zoom in close up of the head and those beautiful brown feathers, white head, pronounced beak, powerful talons and those eagle eyes, made it a spectacular event.

From their web site:

Richmond Eagle Pair

This pair of eagles is located along the James River in Richmond Virginia. The nest is situated in a solid top crotch, approximately 90 feet up in an isolated loblolly pine. This breeding territory was discovered in the spring of 1995 when a pair of adult eagles was observed attending a nest on an island in the James River. The pair produced no chicks during their first year. A single chick was produced in 1996 and the territory has been occupied continuously since that time. The original nest was abandoned and the pair built this nest in 2001. The pair has used this nest for more than ten years and since 2001 has produced 18 chicks including 2 in 2011.

For those that have followed the pair of eagles in Richmond, Va that produced 2 eggs on 2/8 & 2/11; there is a strong belief that the eaglets will hatch as early as Monday 3/12 or shortly thereafter!

Dad was on the nest earlier and there was an intruder, I think another eagle. One of the moderators recorded the event.

It's Monday 3/12/12 at 1:16pm DST. Experts say that one of the eggs has been "pipped" which means, I think. one of the eaglets is saying, "let me out of here"...lol!

Pip has been confirmed by the experts (Pip being the term used when the eaglet starts to peck his/her way out of the shell) They think hatching will occur in the next 2 days!
