Waves - South Coast beaches

Here we discuss all matters relating to travel on the south coast of Barbados.

Waves - South Coast beaches

Postby Sir Spamalot on Tue Nov 18, 2008 2:45 pm

I've read a ton about 'waves' on TA. I've read where some elder folks have been knocked down and hurt whereas other people get their boogie boards out and have some fun.
I'm thinking for a able bodied 30 something couple the waves should be more fun then a hindarance. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciate.
Ps - we will also be heading up to the West Coast to try out the 'calmer' beaches as well but will stay away fro the thrill seekers on the East Coast at least for swiming anyway.

Love Rockley Beach! You can rent the Boogie boards at the beach. The lifeguards flag the beach if the waves get too intense – we never found it too bad, but we’re both strong swimmers.

Some days the sea outside CM and BO is calm and flat.In fact ive never seen it really rough, however it can be a little wavy somedays but fun wavy not dangerous wavy. The closer to the shore you stay the more chance your'll have of getting knocked off your feet  Oh and neither of us are swimmers

We've always found the waves to be fun - at Turtle beach this year looked round at what looked like a small tidal wave on its way - no choice -close your eyes, hold onto your bikini and wait to be dumped on the beach - very dignified  they are not usually that bad though.
We found the sea along the west to be a lot less wavy but still quite strong currents along the edge.
The good thing about Barbados is its small enough to visit lots of different beaches so there will always be one or more that you like :D

Been there, done that - but I can't say I was the least bit dignified!

I have always found the waves great fun but you need to be careful. Best idea in the south is head for Enterprise Beach as there is a small protected bay and a beach with the normal south coast waves. Probably my favorite beach on the island for swimming with Maxwell Beach best for pink sand and blue sea.

I love Maxwell beach too but the best pink sand is Crane beach.
