Wayne Rooney: Guests at Barbados flat had no power, water or food for three days
Guests renting Wayne Rooney's luxury Barbados villa for £1,000 a night were left without power, water and food for THREE days.
The furious holidaymakers were left struggling to cope when a storm struck, flooding Rooney's seven-bedroom mansion at the exclusive Royal Westmoreland golf resort.
And despite being promised five-star service they say they were forced to shave in the pool and fill up buckets from the pool to flush the toilets. Rooney and wife Coleen spent £5m on the luxury pad near to villas owned by fellow Man United star Rio Ferdinand and boxer Joe Calzaghe.
Earlier this month estate agent and businessman Nick Humphreys, 39, rented both the Rooney and Calzaghe villas for five nights with 12 friends, including accountant Tim Clark and PGA golf professional David Butler "It was a once-in-a-lifetime holiday but turned into a nightmare," said Nick. "You can't help the weather but we were treated appallingly. The Rooney villa leaked like a sieve through 17 different holes as soon as it rained. The main door wasn't sealed properly and a 12ft wall of water poured in.
"We had to ration what little water we had and fill buckets up from the pool to flush the toilets. On the last night we bumped into Alan Shearer and he was surprised to find Rooney's house was leaking, after all the other problems he's had recently. He even texted Wayne to let him know."
Nick said on the night he arrived resort staff had warned guests that tropical storm Tomas was heading for the island, but reassured guests they could deal with any problems.
"Yet when the storm hit the staff were nowhere to be seen," said Nick. "We had to rely on a taxi driver to bring us some chicken. If I was Rooney I'd be shocked to find my house was being left like this and guests were being fobbed off."
A spokesman for Royal Westmoreland, which manages the villa for the Rooneys, said: "Barbados was hit by the worst hurricane since 1957. Electricity and water was cut off but our staff did their best. Guests still received a five-star service.

I'm constantly amazed at some peoples sense of entitlement. A natural disaster is happening around them, and they still expect their holiday to continue, uninterrupted.

Typical! What an attitude to have, mind you sounds like Wayne's place needs so repair work done. I can't understand someone with his wealth wanting to let out his place. I wouldn't fancy sleeping in a bed Shrek had slept in...yuk!

I think you may be missing the point a little. I am sure those visitors totally accepted that the hurricane was an act of God. But I was also staying on the Royal Wesmoreland at that time and the service we received from the Royal Westmoreland management was certainly not first class! They displayed a total lack of care to their guests - the arrogance was appalling! For three days following the storm they did not even offer candles or water! The hotels on the West Coast seemed to be doing a fine job so I am not sure what was happening at the Royal Westmoreland. They obviously are not interested in fee-paying guests. We are not rich - just hard working people who had saved hard to afford a holiday,

I am not clear on what the position is when staying at RW, I assume that it is basically a Self Catering thing so isn't what you need up to you? Please correct me if I am wrong but it isn't a hotel, just a load of houses in a closed community that owners rent out?
